Last month, Meliá Hotels & Resorts invited me to visit Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and stay at their two iconic properties. The first hotel I visited was the INNSIDE by Meliá Yogyakarta, and the second one is Meliá Purosani Yogyakarta, one of the icons of Meliá Hotels & Resorts in Indonesia. This review and tips relate to my stays at the Level Room Meliá Purosani Yogyakarta.
The hotel shuttle service picked me up. My kind driver was dressed in a traditional reference uniform of the region—such a unique detail and treatment. Upon arrival, I was surprised by the glance of this newly refurbished 5-star urban resort hotel. It looks even better than before—more modern but keeping the heritage look of one of the first five-star luxury hotels in the city. Warm greetings followed and continued during my stay.

The Location
Meliá Purosani is positioned in the city centre, which is just a short minute's walk to the Malioboro shopping area. Meliá Purosani is the perfect hub for urban & luxury travellers. The hotels are also an excellent location point to visit the city's famous landmarks, such as the Sultan Palace, Tamansari Water Castel, the majestic Prambanan temple and the breathtaking Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple and a UNESCO world heritage monument.
The Level Room Meliá Purosani Yogyakarta
I stayed three nights at the Level Room Meliá Purosani, which includes the superior personalised service at The Level, such as afternoon tea and cocktails. The room and the bathroom were spacious. The comfortable bed had inviting cushions. While the bathroom was marble heaven, the room was decorated with warm cream-coloured paint and wooden flooring. There was a great view of the tropical garden and pool.
Tip 1: The Junoir Suite offers a spacious living room on the lower level and a balcony on the upper level, where you can enjoy the view.
Tip 2: Ask for a room with a view of Yogyakarta city and the majestic Merapi mountain as a backdrop.
Private Check-in for The Level Room Meliá Purosani
The Level Room of Meliá Purosani is on the sixth floor, which is entirely dedicated to this type of room. All guests staying at the Level Room have an exclusive check-in desk at the Level Lounge, which is also where afternoon tea and cocktails are served.
The Ambience
Entering the hotel will take you away from the busy city centre of Yogyakarta, which has a luxurious and warm ambience with elegance, rich marble, and crystals. I suddenly forgot that I was in the city centre. Everything was on point: urban, modern, luxury, but Javanese heritage was everywhere—the feeling of coming home to your elegant home somewhere in Southeast Asia.
The Pool & YHI Spa
The ultimate place for relaxation is the pool, which has enough sunbathing spots, sounds of waterfall features, and a beautiful green tropical garden. I almost think that I was somewhere in the middle of a forest. I really can’t remember that I heard any cars or motorcycle engines. The Meliá Purosani has a wellness spa called the YHI Wellness Spa. Hopefully next time I can have a spa day at the YHI Spa.
The Amenities
The spa-quality amenities are delightful. I even brought some home. What I love most is the coffee machine in the room. As a coffee fanatic, having a good cup of coffee available anytime I need it is an essential detail for me.
The Restaurants & Bar Lounges
Having three restaurants and two bar lounges is exceptional for a hotel in Yogyakarta. The El Patio Restaurant is where most guests will encounter a delicious variety of International, Asian, and Indonesian foods at breakfast. The restaurant was refurbished, and now it offers an even more beautiful view of the tropical garden, the pool, and a lotus pond.
The second restaurant is the Chinese restaurant Ching San. I have not yet experienced this restaurant's Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine. However, the Ching San Chinese Restaurant is recognised as one of Yogyakarta's most exceptional Chinese restaurants.
The third restaurant is the Parangsari Poolside Restaurant, which is located in the garden next to the pool and offers only small snacks and refreshing drinks. The restaurant is an open-air restaurant.
While restaurants can sometimes be a bit too formal for enjoying snacks and drinks with family and friends, The Pub Med and Soka Lounge offer a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
Shopping Arcade
In addition to the nearby Malioboro Street, the Meliá Purosani hosts an array of speciality shops in the building. The shopping hall offers traditional art pieces, batik, souvenirs, local snacks, and a tour and travel agency.
The shops at Meliá Purosani Yogyakarta are Sido Mukti Gallery, Batik Mangkoro, Cake Shop (don’t forget to get your Purosani Bakpia) and Astrindo Tour.
Now that I am thinking about it, I should have started doing these hotel visits and reviews from the beginning. It is not only about travelling to a new place but also about meeting new people. It was such a great experience with the Meliá Hotels & Resorts. It was not just about the relaxing and luxurious properties but also about the people. I had great conversations with the hotel's general manager, the public relations professionals, and the guest experiences manager. I learned a lot from my conversations with them.
I can say that Meliá Purosani Hotel is my choice location for exploring and enjoying the city’s colourful culture and diversity. I want to know more about the cuisine, rich heritage, and magnificent nature of Yogyakarta, which is filled with immense Javanese charm.
MELIÁ PUROSANI, THE STUNNING BEAUTY ON THE ISLAND OF JAVA. “Infused with immense Javanese charm, the Meliá Purosani is a welcoming hotel that is conveniently nestled in the centre of Yogyakarta. Offering superior comfort, fully personalised service and natural beauty, all at your fingertips.” ~ Meliá Purosani
