Samsung Gear S3 Frontier

Samsung Gear S3 Frontier

This smartwatch is the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier! I am entering the new year with a new and super-cool Samsung smartwatch review with CoolBlue. This time, it is the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier. Will this smartwatch pass above the earlier smartwatches I have tried, such as the Fossil Q Crewmaster Hybrid Smartwatch, Skagen Hagen Connected, or the Fitbit Blaze?

Design

The Samsung Gear S3 Frontier is available in all black, which is a plus point for me. The size of the face and the band are apparently focused on persons with big wrists, but can you say this watch looks ridiculous on a smaller wrist like mine? I do not think so. The Gear S3 Frontier is not as heavy as it looks. The size of the case and the strap are the same as the Fossil Q Crewmaster Hybrid. I kind of love the black active silicone strap which perfectly goes with the sturdy design, however, the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier will look perfect with a small upgrade to available bands. My choice will be the Alligator Grain Leather Band Black. Furthermore, the watch can stand underwater for around 30 minutes, 1,5 meters deep.

Display

The Samsung Gear S3 Frontier has a Gorilla Glass, which protects the Gear S3 Frontier‘s 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display with its Always On Display. There are 15 pre-designs of the face watch to choose from, or you can design one for yourself to be unique. The watch has two buttons, a bezel you can turn, and a touchscreen to be touched or pressed to navigate the watch functions. So cool! The Hybrid Smartwatch is great because it looks like a traditional watch but is not handy. The Gear S3 give the perfect look of a classic watch but is easier to use when it comes to digital functions such as apps or notifications.

Functionality

I found it strange to use the built-in speaker to make or answer a call and talk to my wrist, but this is such a dream come true. It feels so futuristic, which makes my nerdy side jump around like a child with an ice cream in the hot summer. Another great thing is the GPS and the integration with the maps function. I use maps on my mobile phone a lot while biking. Having my mobile phone in hand is not the safest way while biking. Now, with the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and the maps & navigation app, I can keep my hands navigating my bike’s bars. Listening music The watch internal memory make it possible to have some music stored in the smartwatch, all I need is a pair of Bluetooth earphones and no more mobile phone in my pocket during gym sessions.

Health & Fitness

The Gear S3 tracks your activities, such as running, biking, and mountain climbing. It also alerts you to changes in atmospheric pressure so that you can watch for weather changes. Not only that, but when synced with the S Health app, the watch will track detailed data and long-term records on workouts, the progress of those elliptical workouts, rows, abs crunch, and more. The small minus point is that the Heart Rate Monitor Sensor is not working optimally and accurately. The Gear S3 Frontier has difficulties in recognising my heartbeats. Fitbit Blaze heart rate monitor sensor works very accurately and continuously monitors my heart rate.

Battery life

The battery life is superb. The Gear S3 will go for approximately up to four days in a row without charging; this watch is compelling. Of course, it depends on personal settings and usage. By the way, the wireless charging dock is handsome and fast.

The Apps

Some said that there are very limited Tizen apps available. The number of apps is much less than Apple or Google apps. However, I have a different opinion about this matter. I think we should only add essential apps to the Gear S3. I still need to explore the possibilities of the various apps. However, 10,000 apps are available, and some said there are too few apps. Come on.

Pricing

Comparing it with the Fossil Q Crewmaster, the Skagen Hagen Connected, and the Fitbit Blaze (now reduced in price), the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier is more expensive. However, this smartwatch is worth it. However, I always find that you should not choose items because of their pricing but choose the one that fits your needs.
