Weekend with CitizenM Hotel Rotterdam
For a mobile citizen and a self-named wanderlust, a weekend getaway to a city for art and culture is like a fresh cold rain shower on a tropical beach after a warm sun. The perfect hotel for millennials is situated in the centre of Rotterdam.
Citizen M Rotterdam Hotel was just around the corner from new and older landmarks of the city, such as the Markthal, the City Hall and the Cube Houses. And easy and fast check-in, and of course, when it’s available, you can go right into the room, which I call ‘my personal pod’. A comfy XL king-size bed (for everyone), huge windows facing the old harbour (my favourite) and rain showers. And hey, there is nothing better than free internet in every corner of the hotel and your own tablet to navigate everything in your room.
Downstairs on the first floor, you will find two beautifully appointed living rooms awaiting your enjoyment. The first living room has a modern television, perfect for catching up on the latest news or unwinding with your favourite show. Additionally, a cosy corner is designated for work, ideal for those visiting on a business trip seeking a quiet space to focus. As I savoured my breakfast in this inviting space, the ambient glow of the CNN channel on the TV provided a comforting backdrop.
A charming fireplace beckons you to relax and unwind in the adjacent living room, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Adjacent to the fireplace is a generously stocked bar offering a selection of beverages to suit your preferences. Whether you prefer a hot cup of coffee or a refreshing cocktail, this living room provides the perfect setting to socialize and enjoy your drinks in good company.
Moreover, as you move through the first floor, you cannot help but notice the striking staircase that is truly Instagram-worthy. Its elegant design and grandeur add a touch of sophistication to the space, making it a perfect backdrop for capturing memorable moments during your stay. The intricate details and craftsmanship of the staircase further enhance the home's overall ambience, creating a sense of luxury and style that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
The best thing about this hotel is that I don’t really feel that I am in a hotel (in a good way, of course). It is a place I know as a home, or better said, a living community of the world’s citizens.
ART Rotterdam
“Art and Culture are as important as fluffy pillows and exceptionally comfy beds” – CitizenM.
And it is true. I was in Rotterdam to visit the ART Rotterdam, where Citizen M is the main sponsor of this art fair, to discover young art. I am a non-expert in this field, and art is difficult to understand. All I know is that it is a pleasure to explore and discover art pieces you admire. This edition of Art Rotterdam takes place in Van Nelle Fabriek, one of the sites registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. We won’t feel uncomfortable with so many galleries from around the world participating in this edition, especially its main section, new art, projections, and intersection categories.
I can do this every weekend.
